The Owen Downtown Revitalization Committee (DRC) is gearing up for the 14th Owen Main Street Car Show to be held on Saturday, August 15. Sponsors are being lined up. The DJ is confirmed. Food is being planned for. Fliers have been out for a couple of months. There will be a breakfast again this year, a little car trivia, henna tattoos, and train rides. And, of course, lots of cars. Mark your calendar and plan to attend the 14th Owen Main Street Car Show.
In other business at the recent DRC meeting, it was noted that the Farmers Market had 16 vendors the prior Saturday and have had 20 unique vendors so far this year.
The DRC is also discussing the possibility of going from hanging baskets for the flowers to pots next year. The hanging baskets look nice, but it is getting harder to find people to help with watering them, as it is about an hour holding the water wand up in the air, which is hard on people’s shoulders. It would also allow the DRC to place some pots along Hwy X. Xcel won’t allow the baskets to be hung on their poles.
They have also had some space added to the city billboard along Hwy 29 by Curtiss. The DRC will possibly use that space as a way to advertise the Car Show and the Owen Jr. Fair and see how it works out before offering to rent the space to area businesses who would like some advertising on the highway.
