Blackhawks dominate Alma Center Lincoln in Homecoming game

When the number one passing team in 8-man football in the State squares off against one of the best defensive teams in the State something has to give and it was the Blackhawk defense that rose to the occasion and pitched a shutout over the Alma Center Lincoln Hornets in the Blackhawks Homecoming game 62-0.

The Blackhawk’s defense kept the ball in front of them and thanks to some excellent kicking by Winston Poehler, the Hawks forced the Hornets to play on a long field all night long. The defense also created four turnovers in the game with Tim Stock coming up with two fumble recoveries and a pick six along with Sully Poehler’s defensive lineman’s dream of an interception.

The Blackhawk offense was not going to be outdone by the defense as they hung 50 points on the Hornets in the first half forcing a running clock. The Blackhawk’s offensive line continued to dominate the line of scrimmage and some big runs by Mason Gay, who rushed for 247 yards in the game and three scores, along with Sully Poehler’s ground and pound put the game out of reach in the first half with over 300 yards of offense.

The Blackhawks picked up where they left off in the second half as Mason popped through a hole for 35 yards followed by Sully’s eight yard run putting the Hawks on the Hornets 11 yard line. That’s where the Varsity turned it over to the JV and quarterback Preston Fritz found paydirt from 11 yards out making the final score 62-0.

The Blackhawks will travel to Lake Holcombe Friday night to take on the Lakers in a big game as a win would guarantee the Hawks a share of the Conference Championship! Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
