Blackhawks put an exclamation point on Team’s Home Opener

As an athlete, motivation comes in many different forms. But when you are playing your home opener and it’s Parent’s Night, if you are not excited, someone better check your pulse. The Hawks did come ready to play Friday evening as they took it to Cornell 50-0 in a North Central East Conference showdown!
The Hawks had a big night on the ground as they pounded out 348 yards on 33 carries and seven touchdowns. The Blackhawk offensive line of Poehler, Wulff, Wendler, Sanchez, and Treankler did a really nice job of recognizing the various defensive fronts presented them and were able to pick up the blitzing linebackers on a consistent basis. Clay Mueller had a big night for the Hawks rushing for 201 yards and five touchdowns. Talon Mueller added another 105 yards and a score and Troy Sherwood added another TD on a 25-yard run to round out the scoring for the Hawks.
Defensively, the Hawks executed their defensive game plan effectively, shutting out Cornell through the air and limiting them to minimal yards on the ground. “It was a high energy performance, something we can continue to build off of” commented Defensive Coordinator Steve Kadolph as the Hawks posted the goose egg for the evening. Talon Mueller had an interception for the Hawks and the defensive front of Poehler, Wulff and Wendler really made yards tough to come by for the Chieftains.
The Blackhawks will take their game on the road this week as they travel to Dorais Field in Chippewa to take on Chippewa Falls McDonnell on Thursday evening! Kick-off is at 7:00 p.m.
