On April 25, we had what appears to be another attack on the Trump administration at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. A person with guns and knives charged a security checkpoint outside the dinner. He was a guest at the hotel where the dinner was held. It is also interesting that this occurred at a dinner where so many members of the press were present, allowing for maximum coverage.
The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Cole Allen from Torrance, California. It is believed that he was acting alone. He was expected to appear in court and be charged on Monday.
One point to be noted is that the system worked and no one got killed, although one of the officers was injured. Apparently, family members also contacted police with their concerns, so again the system worked.
In his manifesto, Allen said, “Hello everybody! So I may have given a lot of people a surprise today. I apologize to my parents for saying I had an interview without specifying it was for ‘Most Wanted.’” He went on to say, “I am a citizen of the United States of America. What my representatives do reflects on me. And I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.” He went on to detail his plan for dealing with this. Although, I will agree that what our representatives in government at any level do reflects on us, I don’t think assassination is the best way to effect change. That happens at the ballot box.
President Trump spoke at a press conference that evening and on 60 Minutes the next night. Trump said that he wasn’t worried as everyone was evacuated safely. He also said he didn’t want to leave. He wanted the “show to go on.” Interesting turn of phrase.
Trump also said, “We have to resolve our differences.” Unfortunately, that is going to require him to do something I don’t think he is capable of, stay off social media and keep his mouth shut.
It would be better for him to stay quiet and let law enforcement do their job. This incident should be a wake-up call for those opposed to gun control, not a reason to build Trump’s grand ballroom at the White House
