On May 8, 2025, five members of the Chequamegon Bird Club honored Earth Month (April) by conducting a garbage cleanup throughout a local treasure, the Sportsman Lake area. Picking up at the Pine Road entrance, the bridge area on County D, the fishing area on Center Avenue, and the boat dock/pier area, the volunteers collected bags of garbage. Throughout their endeavor, they enjoyed the viewing and/or singing of 37 species of birds, with a highlight being the presence of nearly 50 American White Pelicans.
