Curtiss Corners Quilt Club held its April meeting on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 7 p.m. with 17 members attending. Meetings are held at Curtiss Community Center on the third Monday of each month except for August (summer picnic) and December (Christmas party).
In this month’s demonstration, Beverly Brandl displayed quilts that used a combination of coloring and embroidery in each block. First trace the design onto light-colored fabric with Micron pigma pen. Secure the fabric in a ballpoint painting hoop and color the image. Color lightly; you can always add more or darken the color. To heat set the colors, place a white paper towel over the tinted area and gently iron using a hot dry iron to set the color. Iron until no color appears on paper towel. Use embroidery floss and backstitch to outline the marked lines. This coloring technique can be used with kids of all ages and likely create special memories along the way.
In the goal to donate 100 quilts for an upcoming Never Forgotten Honor Flight, the club has completed 61 quilts and received 10 donated quilts. You can check out a full display of these patriotic quilts on Saturday, June 20 at Withee Days from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. At this event Curtiss Corners Quilt Club will display honor flight quilts, offer quilts for sale and hold demonstrations.
Tip for the month: for improv quilting, let go of the ruler and embrace the “wonky,” allow your instincts to guide the cutting and sewing process. The beauty of improv is in the unexpected shapes, curves and interactions of fabric.
Meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m. Next meeting is Monday, May 18 at 7 p.m. where the yearly challenge reveal will take place.
