Curtiss Corners Quilt Club held its June meeting on Monday, June 15, 2026 with 15 members attending. The club is proud and appreciative of all the quilts donated for the Never Forgotten Honor Flight; current count is 123 quilts which exceeds the goal of 100 quilts. Check out a full display of Never Forgotten Honor Flight Quilts taking place on Saturday, June 20 at Withee Days from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. During this event Curtiss Corners Quilt Club will display the entire collection of honor flight quilts, offer quilts for sale and hold quilting technique demonstrations.
The Situation: A quilter spends hundreds of dollars and hundreds of hours meticulously crafting a quilt and given as a gift. Later finds the recipient casually folding it on the couch for their pet to sleep on.
The Problem: Many quilters express hurt when non-quilters fail to appreciate the time, cost and effort that goes into a handmade piece, sometimes hearing insensitive comments about style or colors.
The Reality: Quilts are labor-intensive, and recipients sometimes prefer softer, mass-produced fuzzy blankets, leading to underappreciation of the gift.
Advice to quilters: If you love a quilt you've made, allow yourself to keep it. Refocus your energy and remind yourself of your own value and acknowledge your hard work internally rather than relying solely on external praise. Connect with supportive persons, clubs and communities to share your work with people who value the craft. Save your time and expensive fabrics for individuals who enthusiastically value handmade goods, or consider donating your large-scale quilts to charities to maximize their impact.
Meeting adjourned at 8:49 p.m. Next meeting is Monday, July 20 at 7 p.m. in the Curtiss Community Center and all are welcome to attend three meetings before committing to join the club. Follow us on Facebook at Curtiss Corners Quilt Club to stay informed on club activities.
