David J. Paitel, age 79, formerly of Owen, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the Colonial Health and Rehab in Colby under the tender care of Hope Hospice.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment to follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Withee with Military Honors provided by the Owen American Legion Post #123, Owen-Withee Vets Club and Thorp VFW Post #9057.

David Paitel was born on May 21, 1945, the ninth child of Frank and Mary (Selner) Paitel in Lena. He attended Sunnybrook grade school and Lena High School. As a boy, he helped on neighboring farms. While in high school he participated in football, basketball and track, plus the FFA. He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving from 1964-1967, being stationed in Darmstadt, Germany, learning mechanical maintenance. He was employed by Marinette Marine and later Charmin Paper Company in Green Bay.

He and Doris Stanton were married on August 9, 1969 in Arpin. They have two daughters, Dawn & Darnelle. Their journey together led them first to De Pere, Wisconsin, Littleton and Cheraw, Colorado, then Withee, Curtiss and Owen, Wisconsin.

Dave continued to grow his work resume by honing his mechanical and welding skills, updating his agricultural knowledge, business ownership and learning the auctioneer trade. An injury in 1988 left him with paralysis and wheelchair bound.

David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris; his two daughters: Dawn Paitel and Darnelle (Adam) Kastendieck; four grandchildren: Justin (Abby) Wundrow, Jayson Wundrow, Kaitlyn and Alyssa Straschinske.  He is further survived by his brothers: Kenneth Paitel, Everett (Susan) Paitel and George (Luann) Paitel; his sisters: Violet Evraets and Carol Brehmer; sister-in-law, Donna (Mark) Feirer; as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Clarence and sisters Lorriane Knowlton and Mildred Ward, nephews Randy Evraets, Mike Paitel and Ken Paitel Jr., sisters-in-law Phyllis Paitel and Gladys Paitel, brothers-in-law Ken Evraets, Lyle Knowlton and Dale Brehmer.
