95 Years Ago – June 5, 1930
The Meadowview Country Club has been fortunate in having secured the services of one of the best golf professionals in the country, Edward M. Egan. Mr. Egan has had a world of experience and will be in full charge of the club throughout the summer.
Claude Hutchins suffered a severe accident at the Master Package Corporation plant, Saturday morning when he was caught in a large press. His left arm was badly crushed as well as his hand, and three fingers had to be amputated.
A large casting fell on the foot of Wm. Fox Saturday afternoon while he was employed in the mill of the John S. Owen Lumber Co., and three toes were broken.
85 Years Ago – June 6, 1940
Announcement was recently made of the marriage of Miss Mayme Telin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Solmon Telin, who reside eight miles north of the city, to Erwin Zelm, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Zelm of Longwood, at Waukegan, IL, on Monday, May 20.
75 Years Ago – June 8, 1950
Marriage vows were repeated on Saturday morning by Miss Amy L. Ammentorp and Henry B. Mauel Jr. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Ammentorp, Withee, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Mauel, Owen.
65 Years Ago – June 9, 1960
Mr. Wendell Warren Steiner of Withee is one of 42 high school general science teachers selected to participate in a special summer institute at Louisiana State University supported by a $54,200 National Science Foundation grant. It is designed to bring general science teachers up-to-date on recent scientific advancements to aid them in challenging capable students to enter scientific fields.
55 Years Ago – June 4, 1970
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel M. Munson of Withee will celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary Saturday, June 13, 1970. Samuel M. Munson and Irene W. Cherrier were married in St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie du Chien June 15, 1920.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Rondorf and daughters boarded a plane at Wausau Tuesday morning where they flew to Anchorage, Alaska where they will make their home for the next 16 months while he is in the service.
45 Years Ago – June 5, 1980
Mr. and Mrs. Gerhardt J. Gerike, Augusta, announce the engagement of their daughter Gail Ann to Daniel L. Palmer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Palmer, Greenwood. A September wedding is being planned.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Pagel of Stanley, are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Joy Ellen to Terrance Walter Pawlukiewicz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pawlukiewicz, Withee. An October 4, 1980 wedding is planned.
35 Years Ago – June 7, 1990
Back in business after 2½ weeks. The new pumps and canopy have been installed at Withee Oil. They are now dispensing Super Clean Unleaded, Unleaded Plus, Unleaded Premium as well as #1 and #2 diesel fuel.
Thursday, May 24, employees of the Clark County Health Care Center, voted in favor of union representation. They voted to join Teamsters Local 662 which will negotiate employee wage and benefit packages with the county.
25 Years Ago – June 7, 2000
Sunday, June 11, 2000 will be a special day in the life of Kristy Witek, her parents Donna and Rick Witek, and St. John’s Lutheran Church of Withee. At the 9:35 a.m. worship service that day, Kristy Witek will be commissioned as a Director of Christian Education in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

Pat Jenness of Owen brought his crappie into O-W Sports & Liquor to have it weighed and measured. He had been fishing at the Mill Pond and was extremely happy with his catch. The crappie weighed in at 1 lb. 6 oz. and was 14¼ inches long.
Leonard Buchanan celebrated his 80th birthday with family and friends at a birthday celebration held at the Hayloft on Saturday afternoon.
Leo Stewart’s 90th birthday party was held Sunday afternoon at the Meadowview Golf Course, with a large gathering of well wishers.
A daughter, Riah Joyce Renderman, was born to Robyn and Ryan Renderman, on May 21, 2010, at Memorial Health Center in Medford. The baby girl weighed 6 lbs. 4 oz. and measured 18 inches long.
Sandy Nyre, secretary at the Owen-Withee Elementary School for the past 19 years, retired from her duties on the last day of school.
The outdoor kiln at the old Owen Manufacturing Inc. property was recently dismantled piece by piece and moved to Midwest Hardwoods in Reedsburg.
