95 Years Ago – January 22, 1931
Jerry Miller, aged six years, who has been making his home with his grandmother, Mrs. Cora Miller, narrowly escaped death Saturday morning when he was struck by an O&N Lumber Co. truck, while at play in the street, near his home.
Harry Probst and Holgar Hansen, both of this city, have formed a partnership and last week purchased a hardware store in Augusta and on Monday of next week will take possession of the same.
85 Years Ago – January 23, 1941
Coffee will be served at the Finnish Lutheran Church, Saturday, January 25, beginning at 12:30 p.m. and continuing to 3:30 p.m., for the benefit of the Finnish Relief Fund, for sufferers in Finland. Several of these coffee sales have been held at the Owen parish and the response to this worthy cause has always been very favorable.
75 Years Ago – January 25, 1951
Appearing before Judge Orrin Larrabee in Chippewa Falls Monday morning, Rudolph Knaack, Owen, entered a plea of “not guilty” to a charge of arson. Knaack is charged with having set fire on Christmas Eve to the Curve-Inn Grill, located several miles east of Chippewa Falls on Highway 29. The grill was owned and operated by his wife Mina.
The public is cordially invited and urged to attend the meeting which will be held Monday night at the Withee High School gymnasium at 8 p.m. at which time information will be explained pertaining to the necessary steps—and feasibility—of consolidating the Owen and Withee public school systems.
65 Years Ago – January 26, 1961
Mr. and Mrs. John Zasoba entertained relatives Sunday in honor of their 55th wedding anniversary.
Allen Wuethrich, Greenwood creameryman, will participate as a speaker in a dairy manufacturer’s conference on butter during Wisconsin Farm and Home Week on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Thursday, January 26.
55 Years Ago – January 28, 1971
Allen Gajewsky Sunday accepted an appointment to the school board to fill the unexpired term of J.R. Barager, who resigned from the board after 18 years of service, two weeks ago.
45 Years Ago – January 22, 1981
After 33 years of service as Withee’s Rural Route 2 mail carrier, George Sorensen, Withee, retired Friday, January 16, and his customers are sure to miss him.
Although the outside of the building still stands, the inside of Lorrie’s Pub, Curtiss, appears demolished and the building will probably be razed due to a fire that raged through the premises early Saturday morning.
E-4 Lois M. Hodnett, U.S. Army, left Saturday for her new assignment in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii after spending a 30-day leave with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hodnett.
35 Years Ago – January 24, 1991
The Boomtown Sno Chasers, Inc. and Colby Trailblazers, Inc., will participate in the Badger State Games Torch Run which will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 1981. They will be starting at Curtiss at 10:30 a.m., travel through Owen and arrive in Withee around noon. They will then head back to Abbotsford arriving there about 1:30 and then on to Colby.
25 Years Ago – January 24, 2001
Chaplain Bruce Fredrickson of Withee was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel at Fort McCoy. In his new assignment, Bruce is supervisory chaplain for the units of the 64th Troop Command headquartered in Madison.

Foster Will began Friday morning with a celebration of his 99th birthday at Cozy Corner with the 9:00 breakfast club. Foster also had a birthday celebration Friday evening at the Country Club.
