A quarter of a century of a happy wedded life was observed by Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Mauel at their home Sunday at which time they were honored and extended congratulations by a large number of friends and relatives.
75 Years Ago – March 15, 1951
Yesterday afternoon Mr. A.R. Owen, founder of this city, went into a coma at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, where he has been a medical patient for the past three weeks.
65 Years Ago – March 16, 1961
Herman Rabska, who is finishing out his second term as president of the Village of Withee will be opposed for re-election April 4 by Chester Nirva.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jensen celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary Saturday, March 4, by giving a ham and chicken noon dinner prepared by the Ladies Guild to 120 relatives and friends at the Nazareth Lutheran Church Hall at Withee.
Mrs. Rose Malinowski of route 1, Withee, wishes to announce the engagement of her daughter, Patricia Ann, to Mr. Jim Albert, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Albert, Withee. A summer wedding is being planned.
55 Years Ago – March 18, 1971
Miss Barbara Jean Fritsch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Myron J. Fritsch, Withee, was escorted to the altar and given in marriage by her father to Atty. Charles J. Stansberry, Wauwatosa, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.F. Stansberry, Jr., Plainfield, IL, during a 2 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, March 13.
45 Years Ago – March 12, 1981
If you were driving down County N last Thursday morning, you might have seen a house in the middle of the road. Gary Kallberg moved his grandfather’s old house to a new location about four miles down the road. The move took the coordinated efforts of about eight different companies.
The roof on the high school building leaks. That’s what school board members learned at their board meeting Monday night.
Wendell Steiner, Withee, was honored on Sunday, March 1, with the Silver Beaver Award. The Silver Beaver is the highest award that can be given by a local Scout council. He received the award for his service to youth.
35 Years Ago – March 14, 1991
Owen Police Chief Al Jalowitz was charged in Clark County Circuit Court, Friday, March 8, with four counts of taping personal phone conversations of another Owen police officer, Tom Meckley.
At Monday night’s School Board meeting, Gerald Nelson reported on the candidates he had interviewed for the Administrative Secretary/Assistant Bookkeeper position. The final decision was made and the board unanimously agreed to hire Susan Henchen to fill the position which will be vacated by the retirement of Rose Hansen.
Roger and Ellen Niemi, rural Withee, are the proud parents of a baby girl, Hillary Brooke, born to them on March 6, 1991, 8:30 p.m., at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Little Hillary weighed 8 lbs. 5 oz. and was 21 inches long.

Roberta Glebke, RN, GNP, has returned to her position as nurse practitioner, seeing adults and children at the Owen-Withee Family Clinic.
15 Years Ago – March 16, 2011
On Thursday, March 3, 2011, a second male suspect was taken into custody for his involvement with the burglaries at the Cozy Corner Café and Badger Ag Solutions in Owen and is currently being held at the Clark County Jail.
Nichols Bou-Matic is locking its doors after 23 years in the dairy business, 14 of them in the current location on the corner of Highway X and Central Avenue. The inventory and vehicles have been sold to Bob’s Dairy Supply of Dorchester. The building will be put up for sale in the near future.
