105 Years Ago – May 19, 1921
Friday evening, the voters of this school district held an election and favored to bond the district for $30,000 to complete the new school building.
95 Years Ago – May 14, 1931
A new sterilizer was added to the equipment of the Legault Hospital this week. The machine has water tanks of 20 gallon capacity with compartments for instruments, linen and dressings.
The Owen Rifle and Pistol Club has been issued a charter by the National Rifle Association.
85 Years Ago – May 15, 1941
At the meeting of the Common Council of the City of Owen Monday six representatives of five of the city’s business places and industries appeared before the council and demanded that the city return the gasoline allowance to the city police for the purpose of patrolling the city and the industries with an automobile.

75 Years Ago – May 17, 1951
Eugene Sutter, formerly of Owen and now a resident of Eau Claire has taken an option on the A.R. Owen residence in Owen. Mr. Sutter plans to dispose of his home in Eau Claire and then move his shop and residence to Owen.
“Cap” the black and tan coon dog owned by John Mengel, Withee, won the top prize of $50 for Coon on Tree in the field trials runoff at Wisconsin Rapids Sunday. More than 110 dogs were entered in the fox and coon field trial.
65 Years Ago – May 18, 1961
Electors of Jt. Dist. No. 4, village of Lublin and towns of Withee and Roosevelt, will meet this evening, Thursday, to consider a school addition project at a cost of $89,500.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 15 for Leslie E. Krueger, 68, who passed away Saturday at a hospital in Madison where he had been treated for a heart condition. A bachelor, Leslie’s health had been failing the past several years after losing a leg in an accident. He was one of two Krueger boys who figured in a controversy pertaining to the draft issue during World War I.
55 Years Ago – May 20, 1971
Mrs. Louise Claybaugh, wife of the Rev. Ralph Claybaugh, 53, of Nekoosa and formerly of Owen, died at 9:45 yesterday morning, Wednesday, May 19, at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield where she had been a patient since April 23.
45 Years Ago – May 14, 1981
Herb Stock, Rt. 1, Owen, reported that his car was stolen Thursday evening, May 7. The car, a 1977 two-tone silver Chevy Monte Carlo was parked in the garage.
Dan Olszewski, a sophomore at O-W High School placed fifth in the state at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Convention. Dan took a half-hour long test in data processing that covered computer languages, types of machinery and figuring out why a given program didn’t work.
35 Years Ago – May 16, 1991
A public hearing regarding the future of the Clark County Health Care Center Farm will be held at the Center Auditorium on May 21, 1991 at 8:15 p.m. In November 1990, the Clark County Board of Supervisors appointed a special study committee to review and evaluate this matter. The purpose of the public meeting is to solicit additional suggestions and ideas from citizens of Clark County prior to the committee finalizing their report.
The Owen-Withee Boys 1600 Meter Relay Team ran a record-breaking race at the Edgar Invitational on Thursday, May 9. The team, consisting of Jeff Lulloff, Keith Jasinski, Lance Ryona and Mark Lindgren, ran to a first-place finish, earning them gold medals at the meet and smashing the existing school record from 1972.
25 Years Ago – May 16, 2001
High winds leveled the barn on the former Ray Liepke property on the northeast edge of the City of Owen.
The Village of Withee Department of Public Works along with the help of the Clark County Highway Department hung the Withee Centennial Banners for the 100-year celebration which is coming up on June 15, 16 and 17. The banners were made by Mary Anne Baehr of Wood Violets Embroidery, Withee.

15 Years Ago – May 18, 2011
Alicia Eichner and Brandon Wilson are pleased to announce their engagement. A June 11, 2011 wedding is planned at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Boyd.
Two new aldermen attended their first Owen Common Council meeting on Tuesday, May 10. Mark Hanson was elected as a write-in candidate on April 5, and Art Feldman was appointed to his seat by Mayor Stephen Heggemeier to fill a vacancy left when former Mayor Tim Swiggum stepped down and Heggemeier, then council president, became the new mayor.
House of Friends brought May Day flowers to residents of Clark County Health Care Center.
