95 Years Ago – June 26, 1930
Stanley Michowski has completed the establishment of a bulk station for the distribution of International Petroleum Products and this week the final work was completed on the bulk station here. Mr. Michkowski had three 15,000-gallon tanks, with a capacity of six car loads, erected on the Soo Line tracks, with which he will serve the public with his product.
At the Danish Lutheran church at Withee, Saturday evening, June 21, at 6:30, Miss Dagmar Rasmussen, of Withee, and Mr. Harold Christenson of Owen were united in marriage.
85 Years Ago – June 27, 1940
Fishing activities on Spooner Lake were particularly monopolized by Owenites last Sunday as several fishing parties from the city caught their limit of fish out of the lake.
75 Years Ago – June 29, 1950
Officials of the Western Condensing Company, the Owen Common Council and the city’s engineers sat in on a joint meeting Monday night conferring on details of financing the construction of the sewage disposal plant which the city of Owen has been contemplating building and determining the extent of participation on the part of the Western Condensing Company. Drafters of the plant for Owen’s needs estimate the cost of the plant to be built at about $180,000. According to the agreement which was arrived at verbally Monday the Western Condensing Company will give the city of Owen an outright grant of $30,000 toward the cost of such a plant.
65 Years Ago – June 30, 1960
There will be 14 fewer annual school meetings held in Clark County this July as the school year of 1959-60 was marked by 14 rural school district consolidations within the boundaries of Clark County.
55 Years Ago – June 25, 1970
During the 41st annual State FFA Convention at Green Lake Edward Rusch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Rusch, Withee was awarded the Wisconsin State Farmers Degree.
Saturday afternoon the Owen-Withee Chapter of Future Farmers of America gathered at the Senior High School cafeteria for their regular monthly meeting and along with their parents feted Mr. Ferries. At the conclusion of the meeting the FFA President presented Mr. Ferries with a gold watch as a token of their appreciation of his untiring services to them during the past 21 years.
45 Years Ago – June 26, 1980
The double tennis court in the Withee Park has been completed and is now open to the general public. Proceeds from Withee Lion’s Club projects and private donations paid the $11,500 cost of the project.
35 Years Ago – June 28, 1990
The historic Woodland Hotel will be opening for business, Sunday, July 1. It will be under the management of Christine Gilboy, formerly of Grantsburg. The Hotel will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, open to the public.
A free tree was awarded to the city from the Wisconsin Public Television Network. The tree is a Norwegian Maple and will be planted at the new playground.
25 Years Ago – June 28, 2000
Dylan Fredrick, son of David and Mary Fredrick, Owen, attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison Badger Football Camp from June 16-18.
15 Years Ago – June 30, 2010
Roughly 30 antique cars made their way to Owen from Chippewa Falls last Wednesday when they followed the Yellowstone Trail, which led them here. The group ate lunch at Cozy Corner Café and then proceeded on to Mauel’s Dairy for ice cream cones.
