On Thursday morning, September 3, morning activities were disrupted on School Street in the village of Withee. The following information about a domestic disturbance incident at that location was received from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office:
“One person is in custody after they were involved in a disturbance in the Village of Withee, Clark County.
“The Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of the disturbance at about 6:07 a.m., on Thursday September 3, 2026. The caller told the dispatch center that there was a male party strangling a woman and fighting with her at a residence in Withee.
“Initial investigation indicates that a women returned to the residence to remove some of her belongings and believed the occupant, Carl Hansen, was away at work. However, Carl was home and confronted her. They then got into a physical altercation.
“The victim managed to flee the residence and meet officers at the Owen-Withee Police Department.
“Officers responded to the home, attempted to make contact with Carl but were initially unsuccessful. Eventually phone contact was made and he came outside where he was arrested without further incident. Charges of False Imprisonment, Substantial Battery, Strangulation and Suffocation and Disorderly Conduct will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.
“The Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene with the members of the Clark County Emergency Response Team. The Owen Withee Ambulance Service also responded to the incident. The investigation is continuing by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Owen-Withee Police Department.”
Clark County Circuit Court records show that Hansen was charged with five felonies and three misdemeanors. The felony charges are Attempted 1st Degree-Intentional Homicide, Strangulation and Suffocation, False Imprisonment, Substantial Battery and Possess Firearm-NGI of a Felony. The misdemeanor charges are Disorderly Conduct, Bail Jumping-Misdemeanor, and Attempt Battery. The judge set a $500,000 cash bond for the Hansen to get out of jail. He can have no contact with the victim. Prior to release, Hansen must surrender all firearms, knives, and other edged weapons. He must also maintain absolute sobriety from alcohol and controlled substances, and not enter bars, taverns or liquor stores. Hansen’s initial appearance is scheduled for September 25.
