The Gilman Village Board met Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 6:00 p.m. in the Gilman Village Hall.
Among business covered were special tax assessments, a resolution from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), and a developer’s agreement.
As for the special assessments, they relate to past due tax bill notices.
As for the WEDC, the village passed a resolution authorizing submittal of an application to the state’s Idle Sites Redevelopment program. Resolution 2024-08 as passed by the village board indicates interest in obtaining a cost share grant from the WEDC for the purpose of rehabilitation and/or infrastructure improvements to the village, with an IDLE Site grant sought through the village for Hickory Haven Apartments, to be located on West Hickory Street. The developer’s agreement approved Wednesday, Nov. 15 relates to the apartments.
In other news from Gilman, Village President Jane DeStaercke noted in her monthly President’s Report that she had met with Larry Gotham and Brooke Klingbeil regarding the needs the village had to fulfill with regards to the next sewer permit. DeStaercke reported that she and trustee Russell Baker had looked over both the former and proposed GFL contract, and that they both would rather see some differences such as bag cost and recycling cart, but saw no other changes other than cost.
“And, as we all know, the price of everything has gone up!” DeStaercke noted in her report. She went on to say that she had also contacted Waste Management but had not received a firm quote as of writing the President’s Report.
As for the Clerk’s Report, Village Clerk Candice Grunseth reported that there had been a record of 220 voters on November 5, representing a 93 percent turnout. Grunseth also reported that a 10 percent late penalty fee had been placed on 17 tax accounts totaling $20,423.30 and requested that these be put on the tax roll. Grunseth further reported that she had worked on the SAM’s registration update for the village to receive federal funds, and that the village needed to make sure that it was compliant with FIRE uploading for IRS.
Lastly, no action was taken on either the Village’s Comprehensive Plan or Capital Improvement Plan.
The Gilman Village Board meets the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the village hall.The public is invited.
