Kris O’Leary, publisher of the (Abbotsford) Tribune Phonograph, (Cornell) Courier Sentinel, (Edgar) Record-Review, (Loyal) Tribune Record Gleaner and The (Medford) Star News, has been elected president of the Wisconsin Newspaper Association (WNA).

After much planning and a multi-phase construction process, the Clark County Highway Department’s new Loyal facility is being used and is nearly complete.

After originally passing a motion in January to wait a year before approving any additional sports co-ops with Greenwood, the Loyal School Board decided to rescind that motion and pass a new motion stating that each sport would be considered on an individual basis.

Tribune-Phonograph

The Colby-Abbotsford Police Commission discussed the merits of rerouting all citations written in the city of Colby to the Abbotsford Municipal Court. The commission decided they did not need to make a motion regarding the matter but everyone was in agreement that they were on board with the proposal. Both cities will be discussing the measure in upcoming city council meetings.

The Thorp Courier

Thorp City Hall might be getting some improvements. The Thorp City Council addressed the facility, which is over 50 years old, at their most recent meeting on Monday, April 8. (Alderman David) Korn noted energy efficiency was one way Thorp City Hall could save money. Korn displayed a series of slides that illustrated how much heat escapes city hall during the winter months. The council agreed with Korn’s suggestions and will send blueprints to several local engineering firms and continue to examine the situation in further meetings.

Stanley Republican

As the Stanley Community Association (SCA) hosted the Stanley Chamber of Commerce’s Coffee and Commerce event at the Community Center on April 4, they unveiled the designs for the new splashpad and playground that they are working to bring to Chapman Park and shared their plans to make the dream a reality.

A bad day for seeking increased school taxes—but not winter weather fans. Headed to the polls amidst cold and snow on Tuesday, April 2, Stanley-Boyd Area School District voters rejected a $23 million bond referendum—this rejection mirrored in the region by separate referenda at Thorp and Cadott.
