The Gilman Village Board met Wednesday, February 11 at 6 p.m. in the village hall. On the night’s agenda were several items, including an agreement with Country Wireless and a copier agreement.

As to the copier agreement, it was tabled, while the board sought more information on an agreement with Country Wireless related to broadband.

Of note from February was a notification by Jump River Electric Cooperative of an electric rate adjustment, affecting the fixed cost of delivery charge and kilowatt hour rate. The rate adjustment is effective with the April bill, from March usage, the fixed cost of deliver charge now $48 per meter. The kilowatt hour rate will be $0.1149 from September to May and $0.1280 for June to August, amounting to an increase of approximately four-thousandths of a cent per kilowatt hour. A member using 8,000 kilowatt hours should thus see an average increase of $3.81 per month. More rate information is available at the Jump River Electric Cooperative website at www.jrec.com/rates.

Also from the February village board meanwhile was the President’s Report, with village president Jane DeStaercke sharing more on an award presented to village clerk Candice Grunseth.

“I attended the Chamber award presentations for Taylor County on a bitter cold January 23,” DeStaercke wrote. “I am sure the cold kept some of you from the ceremony, but I assure you, you missed something special. Bill Breneman introduced Candice, our Taylor County Lifetime Achievement Award recipient for 2025. I wish you all had been there to hear all that she has done for her church, her family, and this Board. Hearing the five minute or longer list of her accomplishments made me so proud of her and reminded me how she meets and exceeds the responsibilities we burden Candice with. She truly is the reason the Village of Gilman has received statewide recognition in the past few years. I am so glad that she received some of the recognition she so richly deserves.”

The Gilman Village Board meets the second Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the village hall. The public is invited to attend.
