Mildred Gehrke-Lindgren, age 88, of Withee, passed away after a brief illness at Marshfield Medical Center on June 4, 2026.
Millie was born to Anton and Tressa Auberg on January 15, 1938 in Thorp. Her family moved to Withee in 1940. Millie graduated from Withee High School in 1955. She married her grade school sweetheart, Ron Gehrke, on August 31, 1957 and were together for 46 wonderful years. To this union was born five beautiful children. Millie was a stay-at-home mom until 1976 when they bought the Showcase Ladies Apparel Shop on Main Street in Owen. After Ron was transferred to Appleton, Millie worked at M&I Bank in Appleton and then retired from Ben Franklin as a bookkeeper. Ron and Millie retired in Abbotsford in 2000. Ron passed away in 2003.
On February 16, 2007, Millie married Everett Lindgren. They have resided in Withee where they have enjoyed traveling and visiting with relatives and friends. Millie’s best times were spent with family and grandchildren. She loved reading, crossword puzzles, taking walks and cooking holiday meals. She belonged to the Fireman’s Auxiliary for many years and did bookkeeping for the O-W Fire Dept. During her time at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen, she acted as president of the PCCW, chairman of the kitchen and a member of St. Elizabeth’s Circle. Some of her most enjoyable activities were her monthly meetings with the Auberg girls/cousins, lunch at the Cozy Corner Café and Friday Night Fish Frys with great friends. Her proudest moments were taking care of her husband, Ron and daughter, Lisa, during their terminal illnesses.
She is survived by her husband, Everett; children: Brian (Peg) Gehrke of Marshfield, WI, son-in-law Kim Pomputis of Owen, WI, Julie Johnson of St. Augustine, FL, Gary Gehrke of Eau Claire, WI and Beth Mazzone of Brookfield, WI. She is also survived by her sister, Sharon Taylor of Inman, SC and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. Millie cherished her 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, with one more bundle on the way.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Gehrke; daughter, Lisa Pomputis; sister, JoAnn Burhop; and son-in-law, Michael Mazzone.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 22 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Withee with Rev. Phil Beukema officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen is entrusted with the arrangements.
