The Greenwood and Loyal school boards have approved an advisory referendum question that will be placed on the April 1 ballot, asking voters if they support the consolidation of the Loyal and Greenwood school districts. The boards approved this question at their joint board meeting last Wednesday in Loyal. A few community members expressed their readiness for consolidation and wanting the districts to press forward; however, others expressed a variety of concerns such as where the high school would be located in a consolidated district, the financial implications of consolidation and affect on the mill rate, and others.

The Clark County Courthouse will host the 2025 Clark County preparedness exercise “The Flood That Launched 1,000 Stomach Upsets,” a scenario about widespread flooding and a broken watermain, with contamination impacting health and the continuity of operations. The exercise will be on Jan. 29.

Chris Jennings, travel development specialist from “Travel Wisconsin,” spoke to the Clark County Economic Development Corporation and Tourism Bureau Jan. 15. He gave a presentation about tourism impacting the revenue in Clark County and Wisconsin.

At the Jan. 14 Neillsville Common Council, Neillsville Fire Chief Matt Meyer reported the purchase of a new thermal imaging device with use of funds from an Adler-Clark Foundation grant, which was mounted in the city’s new fire engine.

The new renters of a bar space in downtown Abbotsford were unable to convince city council members last week to let them reopen the establishment after a liquor license for the former proprietor was denied last year following multiple alcohol-related citations. Hunter Oeming and Marta Pinto Collazo, introduced themselves to the council at the start of last Wednesday’s meeting and said they planned on opening a new establishment, Bar Latino, in the former home of La Botana, located at 206 N. First St.

On January 17 Stanley-Boyd School Nurse Karyn Nitz installed two Overdose Aid Kits (O.A.K.s) in the Stanley-Boyd School building after a generous donation from the Clinton Global Initiative Overdose Response Network. Additional kits were installed at the Boyd Early Learning Center and at Open Doors Academy. The Overdose Aid Kits are provided by the Chippewa County Department of Public Health to address the fentanyl crisis affecting the State of Wisconsin and the nation.
