On March 11, 2024, Aspen Schultze of Greenwood died by suicide at the age of 12. In memory of Aspen, her family and friends are hosting an ATV poker run to raise money for suicide prevention, including providing guest speakers for schools and veterans groups, and to help parents with costs should they experience the unexpected death of a child. The “Aspen’s Reason to Ride” fundraiser event will take place on June 28 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at AKA Lakeside at Rock Dam Lake.

During the June 10 Neillsville Common Council, common council member Rolly Gelhaus asked a number of questions and started some discussion during the reading of the city’s committee minutes. The common council usually starts with the reading of the committee reports orally to catch the public up on things that have been decided by the committees and explain why certain items have been brought before the council for consideration.

Students in the Abbotsford and Colby school districts will soon have a new way to access mental health professionals during the school day. School board members on Monday approved a service agreement with Uwill, a telehealth company that offers remote sessions with licensed counselors who are available while students are in school. Under the agreement, each student will be allowed up to six, 30-minutes chat sessions with a counselor.
The Colby School Board decided to move forward with several changes to the sports offered by the district at their most recent meeting on Monday, moving to adopt a new co-op girls varsity wrestling team and middle school baseball and softball teams with Abbotsford and upgrading the archery club to official club status.

At the June 9 Town of Edson board meeting, both residents and board members voiced serious concerns regarding the hazardous intersection of County Highway MM and County Highway G.
The D.R. Moon Memorial Library is breaking ground for a library addition. Now soon to be 124 years old, the library building is being expanded to better serve the community. Groundbreaking for the addition will take place on Wednesday, June 25 at 10 a.m. and comes after a long process including site acquisition, a donation by Walter Wartolec, request for design proposals, donations from several area businesses, city council support, and more!
The Town of Thorp Board met on June 11 with one noticeable absence-an empty chair left by Chairman Mike Boehlke, who resigned on May 7. During the meeting, the board addressed the need to appoint a new chairman. Following a unanimous vote, Bob Kodl was officially named the new Chairman. Bob Kodl becomes the fourth person to serve as Chairman of the Town of Thorp since 2024. Following Jerry Jacks, Louis Andruskiewicz, and Boehlke.
