The Loyal Fire Department’s new UTV was on display at the department’s Spring Fest held April 20. The machine, which can be used for off-road rescue or to respond to a grass fire, was put into service last month.

(Abbotsford District Administrator Ryan) Bargender said the Mexican Consulate set up shop in the FEMA building at the end of March and had 216 people come through during their event. He said the consulate was pleased with that number and would like to make another trip to Abbotsford in September.

Since 1993 the City of Thorp has been honored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service for its commitment to community forestry. The honor is bestowed upon cities that meet the four standards to become a Tree City USA community: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance.

An Eau Claire man is in custody after a high speed chase ended Sunday between Stanley and Boyd. Andre Simmons, age 44 of Eau Claire, was taken into custody at mile marker 100 on State Highway 29 eastbound Sunday afternoon after reportedly leading State Patrol on a chase that reached speeds of 117 miles per hour. State Patrol initiated the chase after seeing a vehicle involved in a felony robbery involving firearms in Eau Claire.

A special meeting on April 25 was held at the current town hall by the Town of Thorp board members after the surprising resignation of former Chairman Jerry Jacks. After the board accepted the resignation of Jacks as of April 20, Clerk Arlene Kodl nominated former Town of Thorp Chairman Louie Andruszkiewicz to the position of Chairman for the remainder of Jack’s term until April 2025 and Supervisors Andy Slowiak and Bob Kodl voted in agreement.

Employee handbook changes are coming to Stanley-Boyd Schools next school year. Approved by the school board at the regular April board meeting, the changes include new opportunities to carry over personal days, a change in the definition of “medical leave”, and wage/pay schedule changes.
