The village of Granton has a new clerk/treasurer who was hired in August to replace former clerk/treasurer Emily Steinbach, who recently resigned. Fabreann Buffington was hired as the new clerk/treasurer and has been working to learn the ropes of the position since she started on August 19.

The Loyal Common Council decided to give City View Estates property owners additional time to build. Back  on August 16, 2022, the city council approved Robert and Jackie Loos purchasing four lots along Bluebird Lane from the city for $18,000, with the condition that they had to complete the building within two years. The Looses came back to the city council this summer asking for an extension on the project, as they had been delayed for various reasons. In closed session at their last meeting August 20, the council agreed to extend the deadline to complete the building to July 1, 2025. After they returned to open session, they voted unanimously to that effect.

A man found dead on State Highway 13 in Colby on the morning of August 25 appears to have committed suicide by jumping off the top of a nearby feed mill, according to incident reports from the Colby-Abbotsford Police Department. Erick Valdez Navarro, 28, of Colby was found dead at about 7:30 a.m. by a pair of motorists who were headed north on STH 13.

Thorp American Legion Cecil Tormey Post 118 was a recent recipient of a monetary donation from the Michael Kodl Foundation. The funds were raised through the sale of the annual chicken lunch at the Michael Kodl Memorial Sports Weekend, which is held in July.

Three new businesses are calling Thorp home as Whispering Wing Reiki & Massage, That’s The Point Acupuncture and Mindful Massage and Reiki all share the same building on 103 East School Street in downtown Thorp.

Courtesy Ford Auto & Truck celebrated the groundbreaking of their new Commercial Fleet Center on August 27. The project includes 13 vehicle workstations and 150 self-storage units in three new storage buildings and is scheduled to be completed in December 2024.
