A vending machine stocked with a range of health-related items, from sunscreen to opiate test strips, will soon be installed at Abbotsford City Hall, but it will not include a safe sex kit based on a vote of the city council on Monday. After speaking with Clark County’s public health nurse, Brittany Mews, the council approved a memorandum of understanding that will allow the health department to place a public vending machine at city hall containing free “harm reduction supplies” such as fentanyl testing strips and Narcan, which is used to counteract opiate overdose.

The district will now award substitute teachers on an increasing scale depending on the number of days spent teaching within the School District of Thorp. Substitute teachers who spend 20 days within the district will receive a $200 bonus, after 40 days that bonus climbs to $400, and after 60 days the bonus will reach $600.

Stanley Mayor Mike Henke also explained that a short-term fire committee was wanted to recommend officers to the Council to be hired to the fire department and to create bylaws to bring back to the Council for review.
The Council hired Don Goettl for consulting services for Department of Natural Resources reporting at $75 per hour. Jeriame Czubakowski was hired in the Water Department at a wage of $23.50 per hour, while Terry Oemig was hired to work as needed in the City’s Public Works Department, also at a wage of $23.50.
The Stanley City Council voted to approve the new rate for rental of the Stanley Community Center to go into effect in 2026. The rates will be $500 for half of the building and $1,000 for the entire facility. The new Depot Pavilion, still under construction, will be available for rent at $50 per side, while the rates for the other pavilions and buildings in town will remain unchanged for 2025.
