Central Fire & EMS will hold its annual Remember the Fallen Silent Parade in honor of fallen firefighters, police officers, and other first responders on Wednesday, October 9, starting at 7 p.m. The procession of fire trucks, ambulances and other emergency vehicles will begin in Dorchester and end in Colby.

Starting with the next round of bills, city of Colby residents will pay slightly more for their water after the Wisconsin Public Service Commission approved a 4.1 percent increase in rates on Monday. Under the decision issued by the PSC, the monthly service charge for a 5/8-inch water meter will be $13.31, and the cost per thousand gallons will be $6.00.

The School District of Thorp announced on its Facebook page last week that it has found a more “permanent” interim superintendent. Per the district’s public address, it was announced that Bob Houts will serve as the district superintendent through the remainder of the 2024-25 academic year.

Stanley-Boyd Area Schools will soon be getting a new solar array. Approved by the school board in December 2023, the 230 panels capable of generating 540 watts each will be located just north of the practice field off Fourth Avenue, for a collective 124.2 kilowatts of energy. Assisted for payment with two grants for $15,549 Focus on Energy and $24,592 from Solar on Schools as well as $79,549 in federal elective pay, the panels from Solar Connections are expected to have an effective cost of $145,601 after all applicable benefits are applied.

The Royal Credit Union recently donated $110,000 to the D.R. Moon Library Building Project for the Children’s room.

Still unofficial as of yet, the 2024-25 mill rate at Stanley-Boyd schools is currently projected to be $5.94 per thousand dollars in property value, or 88 cents lower than last year’s levy.
