The Loyal School District is inviting any interested community members to consider applying to join the Loyal Schools Strategic Planning Task Force. The strategic planning process will involve determining the school district’s priorities, and crafting a guiding document that will detail the district’s goals and inform future decisions.

It is impossible to say for certain how many lives Cheryl Steinbach has impacted through her decades as an agriculture teacher and FFA advisor. Even after her retirement, she continued to stay involved through mentoring alumni members and fellow educators at the state and national level. In recognition of all she’s done to further agricultural education, Steinbach was given the National FFA Alumni and Supporters Outstanding Achievement Award last week during the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

The Clark County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Committee met October 22 in the evidence building. During the meeting, Clark County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy James Hirsch gave updated numbers on the vacancies in the department, as well as on the resignation of patrol sergeant Jeremy Chapman. In June, Chapman was arrested by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office under allegations of sexual exploitation of a child, child enticement, threats to injure or accuse of a crime and threats to communicate derogatory information. Hirsch said, “So he resigned, […] which means our investigation at this point kind of stops, because there’s nothing to investigate. But the criminal thing is still going on with Taylor County.”

As Abbotsford embarks on an update of its nearly 20-year-old comprehensive plan, city officials are looking to get more residents involved in a process that relies on public input regarding issues such as downtown development, public safety, housing and transportation.

During the public comment section of the (Stanley City Council) meeting, Firefighter Andy Koepl questioned the Stanley Council regarding the fire officer positions. He began by informing Mayor Mike Henke that he had violated State Statute 19.85(b) when he wouldn’t allow Koepl’s request for open session for the closed session meeting regarding fire department officers at the Council as a Whole meeting. “I got demoted from my officers’ position and anytime someone gets demoted, that person has to be allowed to sit in on that meeting,” he said.
