After reviewing a study done by Robert W. Baird and Company on the potential financial impact of consolidation, the Loyal School Board was left with many questions, and passed a motion directing the administrators of both school districts to attempt to answer at least some of those questions. At the November 20 board meeting, board president Dennis Roehl made a motion for Loyal District Administrator Chris Lindner and Greenwood District Administrator Joe Green look into four items: 1) two different start dates on the timeline for consolidating, 2) the cost savings of consolidating, 3) a ballot question for an advisory referendum and 4) a two-building Baird study.

The (Greenwood school) board decided to pass a motion to have (District Administrator Joe) Green work with Loyal District Administrator Chris Lindner on investigating cost savings that would come from a consolidated district. The board approved moving forward with creating an advisory question to ask on the April election ballot and will be in conversations with the Loyal School Board to set up joint meetings to review and approve a question.

As 2024 draws to a close, the School District of Thorp’s interim superintendent Bob Houts reminded the Board of Education during their monthly meeting on Wednesday that any resolution for an upcoming future referendum must be decided by January of 2025. Board of Education president Jeanette Kodl noted that the district does need a new roof as well as new boilers. Houts did not have exact figures on the cost to repair the roof, but did say it would likely be several million dollars.

Forward Bank has announced a significant $115,000 donation to the DR Moon Memorial Library, supporting its efforts to enhance learning opportunities, foster connections among residents of all ages, and expand vital community resources.

High school sophomore Cassidy Kodl is making waves both on stage and in the Stanley-Boyd community as a talented dancer at Relevé Dance Studio and Stanley Area Dance Studio. Recently, Kodl was selected to perform in the prestigious production of Nutcracker! Magic of Christmas at the Pablo Center at the Confluence on December 5.

The Stanley City Council held a public hearing on November 18 to review the proposed 2025 general operating budget during its regular meeting. Mayor Mike Henke announced that the budgeted expenditures total $3,038,613, with revenues other than property taxes at $2,318,098, and a property tax levy of $720,515. With no comments from the public, the council proceeded to adopt the 2025 General Fund Budget and set the 2024 Property Tax Levy.
