At its board meeting on Dec. 9, the Granton School Board voted to approve a basketball co-op with the Greenwood School District beginning in the 2025-26 school year for middle school and high school. At its board meeting on a little over a week later, the Greenwood School Board considered the co-op, ultimately deciding that they wanted more discussion and feedback from the Greenwood community before making a decision.

On Dec. 8, the Chili-Fremont Fire and Rescue officially moved its trucks into the new fire station/community center just north of town. Over the next month or so, firefighters will be busy moving in non-essential items, hooking up the technology and making preparations for the upcoming event Jan. 31, with a ribbon cutting and open house.

The new business of the Dec. 10 Neillsville Common Council’s agenda consisted of a single item; discussion and action on Vincent Gomez’s request for a waiver of section 3-6-3, residency restrictions for sex offenders from 500 feet to 308 feet from the Neillsville Public Library. The motion was made and seconded to approve the waiver, which was unanimously approved.

Kelly Supply donated $6,000 to the Marshfield Clinic Cancer Research Center Dec. 5, the proceeds coming from the company’s participation in the No Shave November fundraising campaign.

With Witmer Furniture planning another expansion, the Abbotsford City Council last week approved an engineering contract for extending Linden Street to the east. MSA Professional Services offered the lowest of two bids, $20,600 to draw up plans for paving 400 feet of gravel roadway and adding an extra 170 feet on to the end of East Linden Street, which runs between Witmer Furniture and A-Team Machine east of 11th Street. The only other bid was submitted by Cedar Corporation, which offered to do the work for $30,800.

Last month, the School District of Thorp’s Board of Education debated seeking a possible referendum to address the district’s need for upgrades to facilities and repairs. After discussing the referendum during December’s monthly meeting last Wednesday, the board felt more time is required to understand the full scope of any future referendum. The board had discussed a maintenance referendum at last month’s meeting, noting that parts of the campus’s roof, along with boilers needed upgrades. Interim superintendent Bob Houts said the cost to repair the high school’s roof would be $880,000, the elementary school’s roof will cost $600,000 and the boiler replacement is estimated to be $125,000.

The Stanley-Boyd Area Schools Board of Education met in a pre-Christmas regular meeting Monday, Dec. 16, conducting much business. Among business covered was a contract for LHB services related to a proposed district office relocation, new Ford Explorer from Courtesy Ford, and the designation of Health Styles LLC to conduct pre-employment tuberculosis screening for the district.
