After once again hearing from concerned citizens and health officials at its latest meeting, the Loyal Common Council opted to table the issue of fluoridating city water, due to a couple of council members being gone and wanting to have input from the full council before making a decision.

An engineering firm has agreed to cut its latest contract with Abbotsford by $10,000 after city officials questioned how much the city was being asked to pay on a couple of street projects. DPW Craig Stuttgen said MSA’s bid had come in considerably lower than one submitted by its main competitor, Cedar Corp, but it did not include a line item for construction administration, which eventually ended up costing four times what Cedar Corp had bid.
In order to attract more substitute teachers and other short-term staff, the Abbotsford School Board voted Monday to pay an extra $100 for every 10 days someone agrees to fill in at the district.
After meeting in closed session, the Abbotsford School Board voted to give teachers and administrators a 3 percent salary increase for 2025-2026 and support staff a 4 percent increase ($0.56/per hour).

The Thorp Catholic School celebrated 75 years of history on April 26 at the Historic Quonset Hall. The school was originally named St. Hedwig’s Catholic School but when the school merged with the St. Bernard Catholic School in 1969 it was renamed to the Thorp Catholic School.
Stanley Republican
Between August 30, 2024 and February 19, 2025, the Stanley Police Department received five separate reports of vehicles that had been stolen within the city. All the vehicles were recovered in these cases after having sustained damage due to being involved in crashes. Additionally, all these thefts involved vehicles that were left unlocked with keys inside of them at the time that they were stolen.
