Last week Monday, workers from Zvolena Masonry in Loyal were tuckpointing and sealing the brick and mortar joints on the Loyal High School building. The school board approved this summer project at a recent meeting.
A testament to enduring love and steadfast devotion, the 75-year journey of Vernon A. “Bud” and Joan J. Smith began with a school room seating chart and has blossomed into a lifetime of family, faith, hard work, and adventure. The Loyal sweethearts have reached a milestone few couples ever achieve and grown a family reaching to 82 direct descendants—and counting.

The City of Neillsville’s Murals Work Group is launching an all-volunteer, city-wide mural project. In conjunction with the 2025 City of Neillsville Heritage Days, the Murals Project will feature two murals. A traveling mural board will be displayed at various Heritage Days locations, and a fixed mural will be created during Heritage Days in the West Street parking lot next to the Heritage Days tent.

Mike Dombrowski is the new Thorp School District Middle and High School Principal. He has 19 years of teaching experience. Current High School/Middle School Principal Adrian Foster will serve as district administrator. Brandon Baldry will take over as Thorp Elementary School Principal

On June 25, a lively and emotional groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of a transformative renovation and expansion of the historic D.R. Moon Memorial Library. The event was attended by a broad cross-section of community and state leadership, including Governor Tony Evers, Mayor Mike Henke, Stanley council members, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, the Library Board, and Library Director Elizabeth Miniatt.
Members of the Stanley Fire Department participated in LUCAS device training with Ryan Kusilek from Stryker on June 30 at the Stanley Fire Station. The hands-on session focused on the use of the automated chest compression system to enhance emergency response and patient care. While all members can be trained on the device, only individuals with EMR or EMT certification are permitted to supervise its use during emergency situations.
The Northwest Wisconsin Bass Club held their annual open tournament at Otter Lake, this past Saturday, June 28. Two local participants, the team of Jay Brown and Nate Steivang, weighed in five largemouth bass totaling 11.98 pounds for a fourth-place finish.
