After postponing a vote on the fluoridation of city water three times over the last six months, the Loyal Common Council decided to send the issue to the people through a binding referendum vote to be held next April. The decision took place at the council meeting held last week Tuesday.

If anyone has a lot of history of Granton, it would be Jay Parker. He’s been collecting memorabilia of the small town for several years and has published four books on the history of Granton. Now, he’s working on a fifth book.

Over 160 roosters and hens – many of them with missing toes and lacking access to food and water – were seized from a barn just north of Dorchester and euthanized last Thursday after authorities raided what appears to be a cockfighting operation. Humane World for Animals, formerly called the Humane Society of the United States, assisted the Clark County Sheriff’s Office with the seizure, according to a press release sent by the organization last Friday.
When traveling between their two Mexican restaurants in Marshfield and Abbotsford, Humberto and Anna Cuno would routinely drive by the old bowling alley in Colby. Once the building went up for sale, they decided to make it their next business venture. OK Corral officially opened for business last week with a ribbon cutting hosted by the city of Colby, Abby-Colby Crossings Chamber of Commerce, and the Clark County Economic Development Corporation and Tourism Bureau.

The Thorp Veterans Remembrance Park continues to add new names, Legacy Stones, benches and features. The park officially opened last July, and holds the names of over 2,000 Thorp area veterans and 190 Legacy Stones. Two new benches and a large polished stone bearing the name of the park were among the new additions that were dedicated during a special ceremony on Sunday, May 25.

Stanley-Boyd has a new high school principal, and his name is Nathan Steinmetz. Approved at the May 19 regular school board meeting, Steinmetz comes to the position with 15 years experience in education.
After months of planning and spirited community input, the Stanley City Council voted May 19 to approve the updated proposal of a new community dog park on the west side.
The Stanley City Council voted to suspend bulk water sales effective July 1, following a recommendation from the committee of the whole. The decision comes as the city addresses ongoing issues with its water wells that require maintenance and repair.
