Over the summer, motorists traveling between Greenwood and Loyal have seen a large structure being erected on the west end of the Grassland Dairy Products property. The building is 57,000 square feet and will be able to store a couple months’ worth of production. It stands at 140 feet tall.

It’s been a tumultuous week for the School District of Thorp after its Board of Education initially learned the district would be losing almost $200,000 in federal funding from the Department of Education during its monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 16. One of the programs on the chopping block was the district’s 21st Century Community Learning grant, which amounted to $130,000 and paid for Thorp’s after school programs. While the 21st CCLC grant has been reinstated, Thorp is still likely to lose nearly $55,000 in funding for other education programs.
Silence and tranquility—these are just two of the commodities awaiting campers at the newly opened “Den’s Acres Campground” in rural Lublin. The eventual 25-site facility already has electric hookups and water available to several sites and recently greeted its first group of campers. This marks the first step of a project the Roosevelt Rod and Gun Club has been working on for the past three years.

Community members worked to move library books and materials last week in preparation for the start of construction at the library July 20. The project scheduled to take from 12-18 months total will see library services temporarily moved to the Stanley Fire Station on First Avenue.
