The Colby City Council issued a 90-day suspension of El Derby Bar’s liquor license at its most recent meeting last Tuesday. The suspension comes after the Colby establishment had eight incidents over the last year that resulted in the violation of city ordinances.
A 50-year-old man has been charged with “instigating fights between animals,” a felony, for allegedly hosting cockfighting activities at his barn just outside of Dorchester. Elroy Garcia Coria was charged in Clark County Circuit Court on October 28, about five months after sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant on his property in the town of Mayville.

Members of the public attended Thorp’s regular city council meeting on Monday, November 10 to air their displeasure over what was described as “noise pollution” coming from the city’s industrial park. Residents that live near the industrial park told the city council during public comments that the noise often occurs in the middle of the night and is beginning to affect their quality of life.

The cause of discolored city water in Stanley has been determined, with steps taken to rectify the situation. Identified as originating from improper backwashing procedure, the news was announced by the city Wednesday, November 6.
On November 5, the Stanley Historical Society Museum became a place of connection across time and continents as a delegation of mayors from cities in Poland visited to learn about the area’s rich Polish heritage.
