With the city currently giving up about $10,000 in potential rental revenue, Abbotsford may start charging certain groups that now use the Public Learning Center (PLC) at city hall for free. Several non-profit groups and government entities have always been able to use the space rent-free, including the ShowCase Players theater group, UW-Extension, the Farm Bureau, State of Wisconsin, various blood drive organizations and the Boy and Girl Scouts. One of the most frequent users of the PLC is Clark County, which uses the space five time a month and accounts for about $6,000 of the $10,000 in lost revenue, city administrator Josh Soyk said. He noted that the city recently had to increase its share of funding for the Abbotsford Public Library after the county board cut all funding for Marathon County patrons who use the library.
Breaking with past practice, the Central Fire and EMS board has voted to insure Abbotsford’s Public Safety Building next year after the district found a significantly lower rate than what the city has been paying.

Thorp High School principal Mike Dombrowski informed the board that the district’s current cellphone policy is “sufficient for what the bill is.”
