A fatal workplace accident at Abbyland Foods last Wednesday was not called into 911 until three hours after it occurred, according to local authorities who said a night shift worker fell into a 20-foot tank and went unnoticed for two hours before fellow workers spent another hour looking for him. Initial autopsy results indicate the employee died as the result of drowning. The third-shift employee appears to have been working alone when they fell into the tank at around 4 a.m., authorities said. The Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) is investigating the death.
After touring six newly occupied classrooms and a spacious new library—while also checking out the aging boiler system in the school’s pool room—members of the Abbotsford School Board on Monday approved a list of additional work to be completed using money left over from a $17 million referendum passed in 2024.

Stanley-Boyd will soon have a new, more secure entrance, as well as a relocated district office. The project, originating in feedback received during the gym referendum and approved by the Stanley-Boyd School Board following community feedback Monday night, will cost approximately $2.897 million in all, paid for with Fund 46 Capital Improvement dollars. The project includes a new enclosed entrance ramp, relocated high school and district offices, conference rooms, and district office workspaces.
The Stanley Sportsman’s Club recently donated $1,000 each to Stanley Fire and Boyd-Edson-Delmar Ambulance, for a total of $2,000. The donations made January 14 take the place of those previously made by the Sportsman’s Club to the K9 program.
