With the current upgrades to Neillsville High School (NHS), Eric Anderson from Innovative Office Solutions and Bryce Lingen from WB Manufacturing in Thorp visited NHS Thursday, February 5. They met with superintendent Corey Peterson, head of maintenance Mark Spencer, high school principal Jennifer Aspenson and school board member Herman Seebandt to discuss furnishings for the front entrance of NHS. The front entrance has new flooring, doors, windows and fresh painting. The plan is to furnish the area for students to gather to do homework or work on a project.

A propane heater in the garage is most likely what caused a fire early Saturday morning that destroyed a house on CTH N in the town of Hull, according to chief Joe Mueller of the Central Fire and EMS District.
Students struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues may one day have an alternative learning environment in the Abbotsford-Colby area that caters to their unique needs. For the past few months, a team of educators from the two neighboring districts have been studying the potential for establishing what’s called a “recovery high school,” a setting where students who are trying to abstain from drugs and alcohol can learn while also addressing the issues underlying their addiction.

Just before tip-off of the Thorp Cardinals boy’s home game with Owen-Withee on Tuesday, February 10, the School District of Thorp took time to recognize several unsung heroes whose work behind the scenes ensures Thorp’s gymnasium looks spotless and always ready for action. The Thorp custodial staff got their time in the spotlight and was honored by the School District of Thorp and the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association for their outstanding service.

Unexpected sad news to report from the Stanley Sportsman’s Club. “Big Boy,” our popular whitetail buck at Chapman Deer Park, recently died. Thus far, no one can understand what caused his death. Samples were obtained to send to the state lab for testing.
