The School District of Thorp announced new measures to curb students’ reliance on and obsession with personal communication devices (PCDs), which can include everything from smartphones to smartwatches. “Students may use PCDs before and after school and during their lunch break and in between classes so long as they don’t create a distraction within the educational environment,” district superintendent Adrian Foster said. “Basically, anytime they are not in class. Any other time use is prohibited, and they must be powered completely off.”
The Thorp FFA Chapter and Thorp FFA Alumni selected Michael and Brenda Szymanski as the 2026 Farmer of the Year.

The Stanley-Boyd Area School District Board of Education met Monday, April 27. District Superintendent Jeff Koenig provided a detailed update on the district’s ongoing construction project. Work has begun on the pool area, where windows have been removed and masonry installation is underway. Work crews are expected to install structural supports in the coming week, as well as beginning formation of new entryways while removing the existing stairs near the elementary music room. The district aims to keep the main entrance open through graduation, though that timeline could change depending on construction needs.
One of the most forward-looking discussions at the school board meeting centered on a potential charter school focused on trade education. The proposed charter school would operate as a separate public school within the district, with its own governing board, graduation requirements, and specialized programming. While the district would retain oversight of the charter, it would not manage daily operations.
As the D.R. Moon Memorial Library moves closer in the anticipated opening of its newly renovated and expanded space, this summer, the Building Connections Capital Campaign continue to highlight the generous donors who are helping to make the project possible. One of those key supporters is Forward Bank, which has contributed $115,000 to the campaign. To honor this remarkable gift, a new meeting room space in the library addition will be called the Forward Bank Conference Room.
