On a perfect summer Friday evening, the North Football Squad led by Owen-Withee’s Dominic Sherwood, Colin Fritz, and Mason Gay defeated the South 53–32 at UW-Oshkosh’s Keller Field. The boys did our community proud as they all made big plays throughout the course of the game. Dominic, who was selected one of the North’s captains, led the North with 14 tackles from his safety position, Mason shut down the South’s big 6’6” wide receiver on defense and added some big carries in the second half of the game, and Colin played guard and tight end doing an excellent job blocking and catching a big two-point conversion!
The real winners in all of this however, were the children at the Wisconsin Children’s Hospital, where the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association donated a check for over $350,000. To date the Coaches Association has donated $5.7 million dollars to the Children’s Hospital via the Annual All-Star games. The 11-man All-Star games were played on Saturday.
What a great crowd of Blackhawk Football fans who came to support the boys! There was no question that our community had the most fans, including parents, grandparents, coaches, teammates, and classmates. Congratulations boys, on ending your high school football careers in such a fitting venue and such a fitting manner. After the game, Coach Rosemeyer gave you the ultimate compliment – “What your boys brought to the team and to the locker room was something truly special!”
