The Owen-Withee Area Historical Society was honored on February 22, to be invited to a special event hosted by the Withee Public Library. Laverne Snyder of the Clark County Mennonite group presented an 1890 pool cue from the old Louis Thibert Saloon in Withee, as a donation to the Owen-Withee History Center. Vice President Tim Nolan accepted the gracious donation on behalf of the History Center.
Mr. Snyder said the pool cue was found in 2013 during the renovation of an old Withee area farmhouse. It is being made available to the History Center to be preserved and available for public viewing. During the 1890s, the Thibert Saloon was located on First Street in Withee at the lot of the old Altenburg Ford Garage in Withee.
Also participating in the public ceremony was Janice Arndt (Withee Library), Scott Jalling (Owen Mayor and member of the Clark County Board), John Mauel (Owen City Council), Carol Buss (who assisted in facilitating the donation), and members of the Withee Library staff.
