On June 9, Dick Goessl and Kerry Parnewicz drove to Neillsville to The Highground Veterans Memorial Park to give them a donation from Owen American Legion Post #123. The donation was given in honor of our local veterans, past and present, and to be used wherever needed.
The mission of The Highground is to honor, educate, and heal our veterans, their families, and all who visit. Located four miles west of Neillsville, The Highground started as the Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans Memorial in 1984. It has grown to a 155-acre park that offers over a dozen tributes, a museum with changing exhibits, a gift shop, pavilions, picnic areas, and four miles of hiking trails. The Highground hosts numerous events throughout the year, including Veterans programs, and retreats that focus on PTS/PTSD management for Veterans and families, helicopter and military vehicle expos, Veterans reunions, education days, motorcycle rides, and an annual bike tour. The private facility is supported by private donations and grants. Owen American Legion Post #123 is proud to support the work of The Highound.
