Owen-Withee Police Department supervised a court ordered abatement at 613 East 2nd Street in Owen the last week of May. After numerous citations, the city went to court asking the property be declared a public nuisance and asking for an abatement order for the property owned by Christine Poppe.
In March, Clark County Circuit Court Judge William Bratcher signed an abatement order giving the city or its hired agent the right to enter the property to abate the nuisance. The city was given 100 days to complete the abatement. They were also awarded $10,000 and the fees and costs related to the court action, along with any fees for the abatement. Poppe was given time to remove items on her own, but did not do so.
For three days, workers from Haul Away worked to clean up the property. Public works staff also helped with some items. The city had approved a quote from them in early May in the amount of $5,400.
Since then, more junk has been moved onto the property and it has not yet been determined how that will be handled.
