The Owen Common Council held their Organizational Meeting followed by a short special meeting on Tuesday, April 21.
During the Organizational Meeting, Pam Jaffke was re-elected as Council President.
After a short discussion, it was decided to go to one meeting per month. Meetings will be held on the second Tuesday at 6 p.m. A second meeting may be held during the month, if needed.
Few changes were made to committee appointments by Mayor Scott Jalling. The changes that were made are to add Carrie Heltsley to the Downtown Revitalization Committee, to replace Jason Thornton on the Finance Committee with John Mauel, and to replace Bob Wilczek on the Personnel Committee with Jason Thornton. John Mauel will also replace Scott Jalling as the representative to Clark County Economic Development.
Prevail Bank remains the depository for city funds and the Enterprise Sentinel remains the official newspaper.
During the special meeting, it was decided to have the April 28 meeting as the council needs to approve ordinance changes by May 1, so MuniCode can continue the process of redoing the ordinances. Future meeting dates will remain on the agenda going forward so that council members can vote to have a second meeting during the month, if needed.
The council also discussed the 2nd Street Property that has an abatement order. The property owner has until May 5 to do the cleanup. Otherwise the city will do it. They have one estimate so far and are expecting two more. It will be discussed again on April 28, so they can vote on a firm to do the cleanup. It was noted that the neighbors want to know when it is going to happen.
The Owen Clean Up Day will also be on the April 28 agenda.
