The Owen Common Council held their regular meeting on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
The council approved going ahead with having Cedar Corporation do a new Certified Survey Map of the Business Park as soon as the contract for the new business is signed. This will result in the west side of the park being divided into one 15 acre lot and two 10 acre lots. The cost will be $3,500. Utility access for the new business will be off of Blackhawk Drive. They then approved allowing Mayor Scott Jalling and Planning Committee Chairperson Ray Kilty to sign the contract with the new company as soon as it is available. It will be on the next council agenda for an update and the business will be announced after the contract is signed.
The building permit was put on the agenda as an information only item. All city staff now understand the permit process.
A closed session lasting about an hour was held to discuss the police contract and garage. When the council came into open session they announced that they would like to set up a joint meeting with the village of Withee to discuss these items.
The Owen Clean Sweep date is set for April 5 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the city garage.
The April 8 meeting is cancelled. The organizational meeting will be on April 15 and the council will hold their regular meeting on April 22.
Under his report, Mayor Jalling reported that the Business Expo is April 5 and the Owen Centennial Committee will be holding a Jail and Bail event. On April 26, the Owen Centennial Committee will be planting two trees with a ribbon cutting, serve cake and ice cream, open the 25 year old time capsules and have an open mic. There will be a number of former Miss Owen’s in attendance. The Clark County Mayor’s meeting had been held on Monday night and they got updates from a representative of the Wisconsin League of Municipalities.
Alderperson Pam Jaffke gave a short report on the Police Committee meeting mentioning K-9 Jimi, ordinance work that will be done by Officer Prein, the sound board added to Officer Scheffler’s office, and a dog issue.
