Owen-Withee Food Pantry open for those in need

Posted

The Owen-Withee Food Pantry is ready and available to help those in need of food assistance this month and beyond.
Located at Nazareth Lutheran Church at 1127 North Division Street in Withee, the pantry is open the third Tuesday of the month from 2 to 3 p.m.
With no income or drive thru restrictions, delivery is also available to homebound families in the Owen-Withee area. The food pantry phone contact number is 715-255-0013, with readers also able to contact the pantry via Messenger through its Facebook page, Owen-Withee Food Pantry.
Owen-Withee Food Pantry Co-Coordinator Cindy Cardinal shared more details on the pantry and its services.
“Our normal distribution is 2-3 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month,” she said. “We currently serve over 100 families each month. In addition, we often do pop-up pantries on Thursday, currently from 3-4 p.m. We ordered extra food for the first couple of weeks of November with the assumption that people wouldn't get their SNAP benefits. We have seen more people coming to the pop-up in the last couple of weeks, with over 20 last Thursday.”
For those who aren’t in need but wish to donate instead the pantry accepts cash donations. Prevail Bank is currently matching all donations up to $1,000 through December 5.
“Cash donations are preferred as they spread our food dollar further,” Cardinal said. “Checks can be mailed to the O-W Food Pantry, c/o Nazareth Lutheran Church, 1127 Division Street, Withee, WI 54498. To make a donation of food, they can contact us to make arrangements.”
Helping stock the shelves meanwhile is the ongoing Owen-Withee FCCLA Food Drive at Owen-Withee High School. Now through November 25 this year the Owen-Withee FCCLA is accepting non-perishable food item donations, including canned goods, pasta, peanut butter, cereal, and more. The drop off location is the Owen-Withee High School. Those with questions can contact Holly Hatlestad at 715-229-2151, ext. 1245.
Volunteering is also appreciated at the Owen-Withee Food Pantry.
“We have 20-30 volunteers that show up to help for each food pantry distribution,” Cardinal said. “They come from all over the area, just want to lend a hand for people in need. If someone wants to volunteer, they can contact us or just show up around noon on the third Tuesday.
“We will be doing a mailing in November that lists information on all the Clark County food pantries as well as information on how to donate or volunteer. It will also have information about donations of venison, which can be done through River Valley Meats. It goes to every Owen and Withee address.”
