Three Owen-Withee players and two Gilman players are set to play in the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA) game Friday, July 18 at 6:00 p.m. in UW-Oshkosh Titan Stadium. A charity event of the WFCA, the annual All Star WFCA Football game has raised millions for the Wisconsin Children’s Hospital over the years. The eight-player game is one of three being played this weekend, with teams arranged as north and south to compete in large school, small school, and eight-player games.
Owen-Withee Head Football Coach Terry Laube, himself a coach in previous All Star games, shared more on what the annual event means, as well as the players involved.
“Mason Gay, Dominic Sherwood, and Colin Fritz are representing the Owen-Withee community in the All Star Game,” Coach Laube said. “It is probably one of the most unique opportunities and one that will create memories to last a lifetime.” Laube said the boys will train at Stevens Point before the game Friday evening at Oshkosh. Gay is a running and defensive back, Fritz an offensive lineman and linebacker, and Sherwood a quarterback and defensive back in the Friday night All Star Game.
Also representing their community on this year’s Eight-Player North All Star Team but from Gilman will be Chad Konsella (running and defensive back) and Joey Syryzczuk (offensive and defensive lineman).
Coaches for this year’s North Eight-Player All Star team include Robin Rosemeyer and Tom Tallier of Gilman, along with Todd Roehl of Flambeau and Jordan Lablanc and Richard Croes of Clayton. Laube said he has tickets if people need them, otherwise there is an admission charge at the door.
