Our Nawakwa Inc., the nonprofit organization of former Nawakwa Alum and community members, created to preserve Camp Nawakwa and give kids a place in nature, invites the public to its Grand Opening on Sunday, May 5, 2024, from noon to 4 p.m. The camp is located at 25336 County Hwy E, Cornell, WI.

“Our Nawakwa Inc. purchased the camp to continue the 88-year legacy of keeping children connected to nature”, said Sherry Jasper, President of Our Nawakwa, Inc. “We are so excited to officially reopen the Camp and invite the community back to this longstanding gem of nature”.

Our Nawakwa volunteers will offer tours of campsites and buildings, including the historic Mary E. Marshall Lodge. Visitors will be given maps, take guided or self-guided nature hikes and visit campfires with songs and s’mores. “This is an opportunity for families, youth organizations, alumnae and friends in the region to spend a day in nature exploring camp so that Nawakwa, once again, becomes home to children, their families, and their communities.

Jasper says, “The Board and its advisory group invite the community to take part in the future of Camp Nawakwa. We want to reach families across the region to explore and to understand the value of outdoor experiences. We continue to look for architects of change, people who can help us reimagine Nawakwa’s future through innovative approaches, while fostering environmental sustainability.”

Parking will be available onsite and in overflow field; gates will open at noon. Questions? OurNawakwa@gmail.com, OurNawakwa.org or 715-726-9784.
