Do you use the bike trail that runs between Owen and Withee? Plans to re-do the trail have been in the works for a
couple of years, with the city of Owen getting some grant funding to help with the project. The major portion of the
project involves pulverizing the asphalt currently on the trail and replacing it with new asphalt. The lights on the
trail will also be removed if the new street lighting from Xcel does the job of adequately lighting the trail at night. It
was hoped that the trail could be widened from eight feet to 10 feet, but that is currently in question because of
structures along the trail. There will also be replacement of some curb and gutter as well as driveway aprons that
cross the trail. Curb ramps are also slated for upgrades.
Work is expected to begin next year, with the trail being closed during the work. Any environmental impacts are
being evaluated during the design process.
As part of the grant process, the city is required to have a public involvement meeting to discuss the project and
address questions that those who use the bike trail, adjoining property owners, and others interested citizens may
have. The meeting will be July 21, 2026 from 5-6 p.m. at the Owen City Hall.
