Happy Summer!
I had a great Dairy Month in June visiting some of our local breakfasts at the Penterman and Bischoff farms. These are great experiences for the young and old to connect with each other and our farmers, and it was great to meet so many new faces. July was filled with hot summer days attending ribbon cuttings for new businesses, discussing local issues such as homelessness, and honoring retirees and Eagle Scouts with citations. This last week, I also helped install life-saving naloxone boxes at Altoona School District and Altoona Fire Department.
We are out of session in the Legislature, but we are still working ahead for the future. I will be chairing a summer study committee on the civil commitment process for minors that will be starting soon. We will be looking at how we can keep our young people struggling with mental health issues closer to home. I am passionate about fighting to improve our state processes for mental health, especially for our children.
If you haven't yet, I want to encourage you to sign up to provide an emergency contact for your license records at our Wisconsin DMV. We worked on legislation to create this feature so that law enforcement can more quickly connect people with their families. It is quick, confidential, and free. So far, over 22,000 Wisconsinites have signed up! We are excited to see this progress.
I hope you will enjoy the rest of your August, and that you get to cross off the rest of your "summer bucket list" items. If there is ever anything I can do for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
