Stanley Police seek information on park vandalism

Posted

The Stanley Police Department is seeking public assistance regarding recent vandalism at Chapman Park and the nearby campground.
“We have had recent incidents of criminal damage to property that have occurred within the restrooms near the tennis/pickleball courts in Chapman Park, as well as the campground,” it said on Facebook Monday. “A sharps container, mirror, and multiple soap dispensers have all been destroyed.
“The city would like to maintain the ability to keep these facilities accessible to the public during park hours but these acts make it challenging to do so.
“Any information that anyone may be able to provide regarding who is responsible for this damage would be greatly appreciated. You can call the Stanley Police Department (715-644-5975) or message us with this information.
“You can also contact Chippewa County Crime Stoppers at 715-944-3949 or download the P3 Tips App on your phone to make a report or provide whatever information you may want. Remember, when using the P3 Tips App, you will remain 100% anonymous. Please do not text 715-944-3949 as the phone line does not have that capability.”
Stanley Police Chief Lance Weiland shared more when reached by phone Monday.
“One of the incidents would have happened yesterday at some point,” he said. “From when the bathrooms were opened in the morning to when they were closed at 10 p.m. at night.”
Another incident took place midweek the week of June 28, with hand soap containers broken off the wall and other damage.
At the campground, someone kicked in a maintenance door and discharged two fire extinguishers. Now going over outdoor video to determine possible suspects, the investigation remains a work in progress.
Those with tips may call the Stanley Police Department at 715-644-5975.
