The Thorp VFW Post 9057 served around 600 for breakfast on Friday, July 4 at Yellowstone Park in Thorp from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The annual breakfast is the Post’s only fundraiser, providing money for the operating fund and for donations to the area. Groups and entities that the Post donates to include the National Home for Orphans of Veterans, Veterans Home in Chippewa, Klein Hall, Trinity Equestrian Center, The Highground Ground Memorial Park, Camp Victory, and Never Forgotten Honor Flight.
Last year with help from public and member donations, the post sent $1,000 to Never Forgotten Honor Flight.
The Breakfast was started in 2015 as a fundraiser, with July 4 chosen as the appropriate day to have it. Equipment and tools for the breakfast are provided by the Borgeson Family, the family also helping out at the breakfast, along with the VFW group.
Since its first year with approximately 200 attendees the breakfast has grown every year, with this year seeing 600 in attendance.
“We would like to thank the Borgeson Family and all of our members and their families for the work put in,” VFW Post 9057 Adjutant Larry Luzinski said. “This breakfast is not put together overnight. We start doing some planning in January, securing the pavilion, figuring out how much food we will need and where to order it from. The planning continues until the 4th of July. We start set up at around 4 a.m. on the 4th of July.
“We get set up and start cooking to be ready for the folks arriving for breakfast. We have folks that come every year from as far away as Wisconsin Rapids, Eau Claire. Hawkins, Stevens Point, Augusta, and Bloomer. There are probably more locations.
“VFW Post 9057 Thorp wants to thank all who attended or helped in any way. Be sure to mark your calendars for next year. The 4th of July is the date to remember, the Breakfast is always on the 4th of July.”
