In preparation for a possible business development in Abbotsford’s western industrial park, an engineering company will be taking soil samples from a plot of city-owned land later this month. On Monday, the Abbotsford city council approved a $6,600 agreement with American Engineering Testing, which will drill four soil borings, each 20 feet deep, and then test the soil samples in a laboratory to determine how suitable the ground is for development.
The Abbotsford council approved a Class B beer license for Los Pinoleros Restaurant, which will be located in the former Hardee’s building at 1001 East Spruce Street.
Stanley Republican
A man was transported to the hospital Sunday night, after being hit broadside by a semi as he tried to cross Highway 29 at County Highway G between Stanley and Boyd. The man was unable to cross the road due to slippery conditions.
The City of Stanley is holding a public meeting to get resident feedback on proposed new water rates, set to effectively double if approved. The meeting set for Tuesday, January 20 at 2 p.m., will take place in cyberspace, with “no physical location” involved. Community members expressed displeasure with the meeting format.
The city of Stanley will soon post a position ad for wastewater operator, with starting wage of $28 per hour. Acting at the Monday, January 5 meeting, the council voted to terminate wastewater operator Nick Martin, following a closed session in committee of the whole that was ratified later in council.
